Everton

Everton FC was founded in 1878 as St Domingo FC. The club quickly changed its name to Everton after moving to Anfield, the ground they initially shared with Liverpool-based rugby club, Everton Athletic. However, a dispute over rent led to Everton moving to Goodison Park in 1892, their current home. Everton enjoyed success in the early years, winning the English Football League in 1891 and 1892. They also claimed the FA Cup in 1906. The 1980s saw a resurgence for Everton under the management of Howard Kendall. The club secured two First Division titles (1984–85, 1986–87) and won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1985. In recent years, Everton has aimed to compete for European qualification in the Premier League. The club has made notable signings and underwent managerial changes to improve its competitive standing.
